Reiki is a holistic healing  practice that works by balancing the body's energy. It focuses on the  physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of well-being, promoting  relaxation, reducing stress, and aiding in healing. The origins of Reiki  are tied to ancient Tibetan healing methods, which were rediscovered by  Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.


The  term "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: Rei (meaning "God's  Wisdom" or "Higher Power") and Ki (meaning "life force energy"). Thus,  Reiki can be understood as "spiritually guided life force energy." In  this practice, the energy guides itself, with the practitioner acting as  a conduit, allowing the life force energy to flow freely to where it is  most needed.


When the ki  flows freely and remains balanced, it contributes to a state of overall  health and well-being. Conversely, blockages in this flow can disrupt  the body's functions, potentially leading to illness or discomfort. By  restoring the natural flow of ki, Reiki helps to maintain harmony and  health.


 A Reiki treatment often feels like a warm, glowing radiance flowing through the body, creating a deeply relaxing experience. Clients commonly report feeling physically heavy as their body relaxes, while their spirit or emotions feel light at the same time. The treatment helps release negative feelings or thoughts, leaving the client with a more positive, light-hearted sense of well-being.

 A private yoga session offers personalized instruction tailored to the student's unique needs. In my Slow and Gentle Yoga approach, I encourage students to explore their relationship with their body, paying attention to how they feel in different positions, where they carry their weight, and how the arms, legs, and torso are engaged. The key focus is the breath—helping students stay connected to their breath throughout the practice, noticing when they disconnect, and guiding them back. Understanding and using the breath effectively is more important than perfecting the posture, but together, breath and posture create a harmonious union. As students learn to move with greater awareness in yoga, they gain insights into how they use their body, which can positively impact how they move through their day and life.
